Homework tonight is a grammar page of pronouns.  The writing portion on the bottom is optional.

This morning we went talked a lot about banks and interest for social studies.  We also took a tough math test on fractions.

During the afternoon we discussed pronouns and then wrote about sometime when we were brave.  This blog's biggest fan, Cameron, did a fine job on that writing assignment.  We ended the day by finishing the story of Charles Lindbergh from our reading books.

Have a good evening.

Homework tonight is the last two lower case cursive letters - "r" and "f".  We didn't have time to practice in class so your child might need a little guidance.  We'll go over them tomorrow morning.

We finished our last WASL test today.  The students did a great job of giving it their best effort.  We went to library in the afternoon and then wrote some haiku and then displayed them on our hallway bulletin board.

Tomorrow is Friday!

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Homework tonight is cursive practice.  Your child should practice the letters "z" and "s".  We're almost done with the lower case letters.  Look for more cursive practice as we try to finish all the letters before summer.

Before the WASL this morning we used circuit boards to run a motor and even added a switch to our circuit.  The WASL test this morning was reading.  We'll take our last WASL test Thursday morning.

This afternoon we practiced cursive and started a writing test.  Our writing prompt this time is to write a fable about "no one likes a quitter."  Ask your child about how their going to write their fable.

A normal Wednesday tomorrow.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Homework tonight is a math page comparing fractions.  We practiced in class today and even came up with a couple of rules in comparing fractions (like if the numerator is about the same size as the denominator then it's a large fraction).

We also wrote a haiku and ended the day with a reading test of our own.

Tomorrow is another reading WASL test.  Have a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast.

Homework tonight is spelling practice.

We're done WASLing for the week.  Our next WASL test will be next Tuesday.  The students did a great job with their effort all week long.

We also had a good time learning how to light a light bulb using only a D-cell and wires.  We even lit it using only one wire.  Ask your child how we did that.

Tomorrow's Friday!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Homework tonight is a grammar page on adverbs.  They also need to finish the haiku we started in class that we wrote on the back on the homework page.  The last line should be five syllables long.  They're also free to write as many more haiku as they would like on the back.

The reading WASL test went well this morning.  Tomorrow will be done the second math test.

This afternoon we read some haiku that we wrote last night, finished our social studies test, and then started our homework page together.

Have a good evening.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Homework tonight is to do some enjoyable reading and write at least one haiku.  We learned that a haiku consists of three lines.  The first and third lines have 5 syllables and the second line is made up of 7 syllables.

WASL testing went really well.  All the students did their best and were very respectful of their fellow test-takers.  Tomorrow we do the first reading test.

This afternoon we wrote some haiku about what we would change in the world and read a story from our reading book.

See you tomorrow.
