Homework tonight is a grammar page of verb-hunting.
We took a math test today on place value. I hope to go over it tomorrow. We read about immigrants in social studies. We ended the day with some writing and reading.
Don't forget no school for students on Friday, so tomorrow will be our Friday.
Homework tonight is a math page. We learned about making line graphs today as you'll see on the homework page. Due to the short week, we won't have our regular spelling words.
This afternoon we wrote together about the reasons we're ready for the snow to melt. We also practiced finding verbs in sentences.
Look for the the information about reading for Silverwood tickets that went home. Every student who reads 600 minutes from now until March 3 will get a free ticket. So the minutes read each night count for three different programs (Pizza Hut, Read to Feed, and Silverwood). How 'bout three birds with one stone!
Homework tonight is spelling practice. The final test is tomorrow.
We continued working on decimals in math and even put together a handy-dandy place value tool for further practice. We also did some experiments with water to see how water runs downhill. We raced some drops down a slope.
This afternoon we went to the library and ended the day reading last week's "Time for Kids" magazine.
Homework tonight is a grammar page of verbs. We went through the page and discussed helping verbs and main verbs.
In math today we continued to practice decimals and we added the thousandths place to our decimals. In the afternoon we took a reading comprehension test and worked on our writing.
Don't forget the enrollment form for "Read to Feed".
Homework tonight is a math page. Today we found a tenth and a hundredth of a meter. That meter stuff is still pretty tough so the last four problems on the homework might require some help.
We also prepared for tomorrow's social studies test and practiced locating the verbs in sentences. We then wrote a bit and ended the day by reading the story "Tops and Bottoms".
Please send back your child's enrollment form for "Read to Feed". We've only had a couple turned in and everyday there's a drawing from those that had been turned in.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. This week's words are:

Bonus Words:

We continued practicing tenths and hundredths in math and learned about surface tension in science. Ask your child how many drops we could put on a penny and why.
This afternoon we talked about summarizing in reading and took our spelling pretest.
Don't forget to send back your child's enrollment form for Read to Feed. Have you started keeping track of your minutes?
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. (See Monday's entry for the word list). Encourage your child to learn the bonus words if the regular list was too easy.
We learned about tenths and hundredths today in math. We'll continue practicing next week. We also read about how railroads and the telegraph united our country in the westward expansion.
This afternoon we went to library and then took our reading comprehension test. Look for a letter from Mrs. Serchio concerning recorders in your child's binder.
Look for "Read to Feed" information tomorrow after school.
Go Seahawks!
No homework tonight. We had seven students out due to the huge snowfall. I'm surprised any of us were here.
We didn't start anything new, but we used our time well to review the lessons we've done recently in math and grammar/writing. We also spent some time in the computer room reading "Time for Kids" magazine articles (see the link to the left).
Hopefully we'll see everyone back tomorrow. Book orders are due on Friday.

We read about St. Louis this morning in social studies. We talked about immigrants becoming entrepreneurs and what "profit" is. See if your child remembers what an entrepreneur is. For math we discovered how minutes old we were on our last birthday.
This afternoon we read about steps in a process and took our spelling pretest.
How many points will the Seahawks beat the Packers by this weekend?
Homework tonight on the first day of school this year is math. Today we "played" with bigger numbers by comparing, contrasting and rounding them. The students had a difficult time rounding numbers to the nearest one hundred thousand.
We also started brushing up on our cursive by practicing the letters "l" and "h". After library we heard all about the great presents of Christmas.
Tomorrow's Friday already. Not bad.
