Homework tonight is spelling practice.

We practiced multiplication today by finding distances on a map using its scale.  We also finished our try-outs for the "Polar Express".  Madison will be our Santa, Charlie made it as the little brother, and we have a strong team of passengers for the train and some great elves.  I'm looking forward to starting our practices tomorrow.

After library we worked some more on the writing we started yesterday.  I also sent home tow new book orders and will accept orders through Wednesday.

Don't forget to turn in your Pizza Hut minutes for November.

Homework tonight is a grammar page about possessive nouns.  We didn't practice a lot in class so it might require a little more help than usual.  We'll go over the page tomorrow in class.

We practiced the multiplication facts some more and started try-outs for the play.  We had some great performances this morning, but so far we've chosen Anthony to play the part of the child and Rose to play the part of the conductor (she'll be our first female conductor).  There'll be more try-outs tomorrow.

We ended the day writing about dangerous things.  Hopefully the snowfall tonight won't be one of them!

Homework tonight is a math page of fact families.  We haven't memorized the facts yet so it's okay if your chlid uses a multiplication table to find the answers.  You can encourage your child to practice with their fact triangles.

We read through our play today and I told all the students that we will begin tryouts for parts tomorrow morning.  Unfortunately some will be disappointed that they don't get the part they wanted, but encourage your child to have a couple of parts in mind.

We ended the day reading about icebergs and taking a quiz on singular and plural nouns.

Look for notes about the school craft fair and Santa's Secret workshop.

Homework tonight is spelling practice.  Here's this week's list of words:

large
page
orange
jeans
jam
jet
jelly
juggle
sometimes
center
pencil
silly
circle
cents
circus

Bonus Words:

continual

delicate

We'll start reading our "Polar Express" play tomorrow morning.  I'll ask the students to pick which parts they want to try out for and beginning practicing.  Tryouts will start on Wednesday morning.  I'm hoping that my the end of th week everyone will know their parts and next week will start blocking out the movements.

Ask your child about the multiplication fact triangles we cut out today.  He/she should have them in their binders to practice once in awhile at home.  We'll push harder for fact memorization in the spring.

Have a good night.

Homework tonight is a math page.  We discovered how many of the multiplication facts we already know and talked about working towards memorization.  We're just beginning the process and will work harder on fact practice this spring.

We read about the Pilgrims this morning and worked on our "thankful" paragraphs this afternoon.  Mrs. Ryan, the school counselor, also came in and talked to us about being assertive.

Don't forget tomorrow's a half day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:25.

Homework tonight is a math page.  We worked on division/multiplication story problems using our helpful diagram boxes.  Your child may need to use a set of objects like coins or beans to help him/her solve some of the problems.  (No spelling this week due to Thanksgiving).

We read about three different explorers in social studies.  Ask your child what they were all looking for (hint: trade route to Asia).

We read an old Time for Kids magazine for reading and wrote about what we're thankful for in some power boxes.

We got our book order back today and I'll send a December order form home at the end of next week.  How's the Pizza Hut minutes going this month?

Homework tonight is spelling practice.

Don't forget our Veterans' Day assembly will start tomorrow morning at 8:15.  We finished our acrostics and are up on our hallway bulletin board.  Make sure you read them if you come to the assembly.

We learned how to use an array to help us solve multiplication problems and took a difficult social studies test.  It was so hard that I think I'll send it home next week for your assistance.

Have a good night.

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

By the end of the day half our class had left, so no homework tonight.  I did tell the remaining students to practice the three forms of "there" (there, their, and they're).

We started multiplication today and used a new diagram box to help us organize our data.  We read about tornadoes and worked to finishing up our Veterans' acrostics.

I just called in the book orders so they should arrive in time for Thanksgiving.

Thanks to all of you who have already sent your conference forms back.  Don't forget book orders are due on Wednesday.   Look for a note from our nurse concerning MRSA information.

Thanks to Mrs. Koski for all her work on the Halloween party.

Thursday, November 01, 2007

Homework tonight is spelling practice.  Tomorrow is the final test.

We took a math test this morning and had a great time with the Bess beetles.  We tested their strength.  Ask your child how we found out.

After library we wrote about Halloween/Fall.

Look in your child's notebook for the green conference forms with the time I scheduled for you.  Send the bottom part of the form back with your child to let me know if the time works for you or not.  I'll be glad to reschedule to a more convenient time.

Don't forget book orders are due next Wednesday.
