Homework tonight is spelling practice in preparation for tomorrow's final test.
Math was pretty hard this morning as we extended the basic math facts to harder problems like 80 + 70 = and 34 + 7 = . Students had to recognize the basic fact within those harder problems (8 + 7 and 4+7). We also finished our SOAR testing and Mrs. Shaw will let us know which students qualified for further testing.
This afternoon we had a fire drill and then went to the library. We ended the day taking some AR tests in the computer room.
Look for a note that went home with all the dates for late starts this year. Don't forget next Wednesday, October 3, will be our first one (school will start at 10am on those days).
Have a good night.
Homework tonight is a grammar page of questions and statements.
In math we continued working on basic addition and subtractions facts after taking two more SOAR tests. We also completed our science experiment from yesterday. Ask your child what happened to the beans that soaked overnight in water. Also ask them if he/she can name the three parts of a seed that we observed today (seed coat, cotyledons, and embryo).
This afternoon we took a comprehension test and did some more power writing.
Tomorrow is Popcorn Thursday. Don't forget your quarter.
Homework tonight is math practice with fact triangles. Our new chapter will focus on addition and subtraction skills.
We're soaking seeds right now in science. Ask your child what we're going to do with them tomorrow (hint: it involves a scale).
This afternoon we read a story called "Born to Rope" and practiced a fire drill. We ended the day by practicing question marks and writing about what we're good at. Ask your child what he/she wrote about.
Have a good evening.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. This week's words, which all have a long e sound, are:
many
family
lucky
busy
seem
deep
week
asleep
idea
video
secret
even
speak
mean
least
Bonus Words:
barrel
confide
We took our first math test this morning and checked our seeds. Ask your child the seeds are coming along. This afternoon we talked about the author's purpose in reading and took our pretest in spelling.
Ask your child to show you the SOAR letter as we will begin SOAR testing tomorrow.
We checked our seeds, cleaned our desks, figured out that we have 12 hours and 15 minutes of daylight today, took our spelling test, ate lunch, went to P.E., and even did some show and tell.
Also check the link to the left entitled "Schedule, Email, Phone" and see if our schedule is now showing. I think I fixed the link, but let me know if it doesn't work.
Have a good weekend.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Don't forget our final test is first thing tomorrow morning.
In math today we started our sunrise/sunset graph that we'll work on every Friday. It's a great way for us to practice elapsed time which is a very difficult skill for third graders. Don't be surprised if your child struggle with this for most of the year.
We finished our Gates testing and talked some more about landforms and climate in social studies. Ask your child what the difference is between "weather" and "climate".
This afternoon we went to the library and sniffed around the bookfair and then ended the day with a drawing lesson.
See you tonight! (My presentation is at 7:10)
Homework tonight is a grammar page on subject and predicate.
We looked for patterns in math today and "planted" some seeds in science. Ask your child how we planted our seeds.
This afternoon we took a comprehension test on "Goldilocks" and practiced subjects and predicates.
See you at Open House tomorrow night.
Homework tonight is a math page on using a number grid.
We started science this morning. We discussed the properties of various fruits and seeds. We cut into some fruits and counted the seeds and compared them to other seeds. Ask your child which fruit had the most seeds.
This afternoon we read a silly version of "Goldilocks" and then practiced finding the subject and predicate in our own sentences.
Don't forget Open House is this Thursday!
Homework tonight is spelling practice. This week's words are:
happen
pretty
letter
million
little
rabbit
hurry
muffins
balloon
ladder
puddle
middle
hammer
lesson
drill
Bonus Words:
bought
brought
As you can see this week's words are tougher than last week's and so may require more time practicing at home.
We worked with money this morning in math. We counted it, wrote it, and compared it. We started talking about different landforms in social studies. Ask your child what "erosion" means.
This afternoon we discussed the reading skill "drawing conclusions" and took the Vocabulary portion of the Gates-MacGinitie reading test. We finished the day with a hurried spelling check test.
Have a good Monday night.
No homework tonight - the copy machine broke. It's always a good idea to practice some tough spelling words.
In math today we made a graph of our first and last names and discovered that our last names have more letters in them than our first names. We learned that communities come in different sizes and discussed the differences between urban areas, suburbs, and rural areas. You'll be glad to know that the students in our room want to still live in a rural area when they're adults.
We finished the day by talking about sentences and then writing a rough draft of our summer vacations. We hope to do the final draft tomorrow and have them up on our lockers when you come for Open House. Open House will be next Thursday!
Homework starts tonight with a spelling page. Homework should only take about 10 minutes and should be fairly easy...a chance to show off.
This week's list of spelling words is:
stamp
drag
math
smell
fresh
getting
still
with
think
body
lock
not
cuff
luck
plus
We learned about maps in social studies, talked about sequence in reading, and used some of the tools we'll be using for math.
Have a good night.
We had a good first week. Enjoy you're weekend and look for more papers to sign and return.
Go Seahawks!
We used the number grid today to help us add and subtract and then did some number grid problems. We started our social studies book by talking about communities and the importance of the quality of people who make them up. We went to Library for the first time and then took our first STAR reading test in the computer room.
Look for some more papers in your child's backpack to sign and return.
Welcome to our blog. We're under way in room 3. Today beside going over all our routines and needed materials, we talked about numbers and how we use them, read quite a bit, and even started writing about our summer vacations.
Look for all the stuff that went home tonight, especially my letter listing all the materials needed for our classroom. Let me know if you have any questions.
Day two starts tomorrow at 8:00!
