Homework tonight is a math page. No spelling this week because we're in between units and it's time for the Unit Test.
We continued practicing multiplying a single digit number with a two-digit number in math and talked more about the moon. We also talked about the new series on Discovery Channel called "Planet Earth." If you want to see some impressive nature photography take a look the next time the show is on.
We ended the day with a reading test, some adjective and adverb practice, and then some writing.
Don't forget tomorrow is a half day and conferences start.
No homework. Enjoy the day off tomorrow from school.
The students went through the EDITH house today. Ask them what they learned there.
See you Monday.
No school on Friday, so tonight's homework is spelling. Our spelling test this week will be tomorrow morning.
In multiplication today we started multiply factors like 6 x 34 = ____. We'll practice some more tomorrow and learn an algorithm next week.
The students did a great job sharing their fables today and I'll give them to you during conferences next week.
This afternoon we took a reading comprehension test and practiced adverbs. We also had an assembly with Dan Conley about writing.
Homework tonight is to fill out the entry form for the science fair. Your child doesn't haven't to enter the fair but I do want to have them write a good question and a prediction.
Tomorrow's the big Writing Rally and I need a couple more parents to lead a small group from 9:40 - 10:30. I'll make some calls to see who's available.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Don't forget that this week's final test will be on Thursday rather than Friday.

We started the next chapter in math on more multiplication facts. We'll be learning a couple of multiplication algorithms and practicing our facts. We didn't do so well on our fractions test, so we'll be returning to that before the year is over.
We're almost done with our fables and will be ready for the Writing Rally on Wednesday.
Homework tonight is spelling practice.
Thank you, Cindy, for the St. Patrick's Day art. We're underway on the final draft for our fables. Tomorrow's going to be busy.
Way to go, Cougs! Go Zags tonight at 7:00!
I'm late tonight, so just the homework:
Math page of fraction number stories (Test tomorrow).
Homework tonight is a grammar page on adverbs.
In math today we did story problems involving fractions. It was pretty difficult and we'll continue with more tomorrow. In social studies we discussed rights and responsibilities some more.
This afternoon Mr. Salzman talked about wall ball rules and resolving conflicts during games. We ended the day working hard on our fables. Most students have finished a rough draft so tomorrow we'll revise.
Don't forget to let me know if your conference time is okay.

Homework tonight is spelling practice.
We learned more about comparing fractions. We discovered that we can tell if a fraction is large or small by looking at the relationship between the numerator and the denominator. Ask your child how.
We continued to work on our fables. A lot of the students are off to a strong start.
Enjoy the Cougars vs. Huskies tonight at 8:30.
How's your child doing with fractions? Look over his/her shoulder tonight during homework time and you'll find out. Homework is a page of fractions.
We continued to practice comparing fractions today and some even figured out that you can multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number to get an equivalent fraction. This afternoon we discussed "Thunder Cake" and took a comprehension story. We ended the day by finishing a power writing paragraph and starting a new writing project for our Writing Rally.
Our Writing Rally is going to take place on March 21. Each student will need to create their own book to share with students from other classes. I've decided that we're all going to write fables. Today we for prewriting we jotted down ideas we had for the moral of our story, the characters, the setting, and the problem. Talk to your child about his/her ideas so far. Tomorrow we'll try to flesh it out even more. I'll keep you posted.
Click here for a link to a free keyboarding program that's pretty popular with the kids.
Remember Book Orders are due on Friday.
Homework tonight is a grammar page on comparative and superlative adjectives (don't worry it's easy).
I also sent home the science fair information and I'm requiring each student to fill out the entry form. I'm not requiring each one to go on all the way to making the display board for the fair, but I would like to see each student come up with a legitimate scientific experiment (question and hypothesis). Notice that it isn't due until March 23, so we take time to talk with your child about possible questions.
We continued working on fractions, talked about the "common good" and 'volunteering" in social studies, and wrote a paragraph this afternoon.
How 'bout those Zags? They made us proud in their bonding together to overcome adversity. Watch out NCAA!

We learned a lot about electrical safety today thanks to Mr. Hartill. Did you know Australia use to me the home of a marsupial lion? Do you know what the record is for the most snow angels at one time? Check out this week's Time for Kids magazine.
I'm off to State B-Basketball tonight. Root for the Cougs and Zags this weekend.
Homework tonight is spelling practice - test tomorrow.
This morning all the groups successfully raised a weight with their waterwheels. Ask your child how they anchored it down to the basin. We also practiced fractions and had a surprise visit from the NWC basketball team and their coach. They passed out some nice posters on sportsmanship and one player did a nice ball-spinning demonstration for us. They play their State B game tonight at 7:30 in the arena with radio coverage on KMBI 107.9 FM. Go Crusaders!
This afternoon we took a comprehension test on "Sam and the Lucky Money" and wrote power 3 sentences on our paragraphs. The power writing seems to be really helping the students. I'll try to remember to post one of their pieces of writing next week.
Tomorrow's Friday and it's Red Day.
