Homework tonight is a math page on fractions (we started a new chapter today).
We are really working hard in science to design a waterwheel that will lift a weight off the floor. Most groups have successfully designed the wheel, but they're having a tough time figuring out how to anchor it to the basin. Hopefully they'll get that figured out tomorrow.
We read "Sam's Lucky Money" this afternoon and started a piece of writing on what to do with a $100. Ask your child how they would use that much money. Gifts to teachers are always a wise use of money!
Tomorrow is Hat Day! It's popcorn Thursday as well.
Homework tonight is a grammar page on adjectives.
In science we took a little test and started a new chapter in social studies about "Community Government." We gave yesterday's math test one more try and then drew our own "Cat in the Hat." They turned out pretty good and are hanging in the hallway.
This afternoon Mr. Salzman talked to us about making good choices and then we had some extra P.E. due to our good behavior in P.E. every Tuesday and Thursday. We ended the day going over the homework page. I also asked them to be thinking about what they would do with $500 (in preparation for tomorrow's writing assignment).
Tomorrow is "Crazy Sock Day."
It's Monday so it's spelling homework night. Here's this week's words:

We compared soil and gravel to see which one would hold more water. Ask your child what we discovered and how. We also learned about the setting in a story, took a math test, and Mrs Mooney read a Dr. Suess book to us as well.
Don't forget tomorrow is tie day and picture day!
Just in case you hadn't heard, Dr. Seuss week starts on Monday with Pajama Day. Tuesday is Tie Day, Wednesday is Crazy Sock Day, Thursday is Hat Day, and Friday is Wear Red Day (because we read all week).
I think I'll opt for sweats on Monday.
We're almost at 11 hours of daylight and are they still predicting snow for Saturday?
Enjoy your weekend.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Be ready for the final test tomorrow.
We took a social studies test this morning and practiced our math skills. This afternoon we took a comprehension test in reading, wrote some sentences with adjectives, and spent a little time reading in the computer room.
Tomorrow's Friday!
Homework tonight is a grammar page on adjectives. We spent several minutes going over it at the very end of the day.
This morning we learned about immigrants to Brazil and discussed the mixture of old and new. We also extended our multiplication facts to problems like 40 x 80 = 3200.
This afternoon we had an assembly about the new PTO fund raiser and I sent home the information with each student. The kids were pretty excited about he prize possibilities. We also read "Ananse's Feast" and will take a comprehension test on it tomorrow.

Don't forget to keep track of reading minutes for both "Book-It" and Silverwood. Remember picture day is next week and ask your child what condensation is.
Homework tonight is a grammar page on irregular nouns (like run - ran). They don't have to do the writing portion just the first 10.
We've extended our multiplication facts so that your child should be able to figure out what 300 x 8 equals. In science we discovered that the amount of surface area affects evaporation. Ask your child how we figured that one out.
This afternoon we finished our unit test in reading as well as our comparison paragraphs. I also sent home the Silverwood Reading Sheets. The contest started at the beginning of February so feel free to write down the minutes that your child has already read at home and then continue until the end of March. As soon as your child has read 10 hours then turn it in to me and we'll wait for that free Silverwood ticket to arrive.
Enjoy!
Thanks to all those who helped make our Valentine's Day special yesterday.
Homework tonight is spelling practice.
We practiced multiplication facts with a Bingo-type game. We also wrapped up our evaporation experiment. Ask your child what we discovered about the relationship of heat and evaporation. In which location did the water evaporate the most? The least?
We took a reading comprehension test this afternoon and wrote some more of our expository paragraph.
Book orders are due tomorrow.
Homework tonight is fix up the errors on the math test we took on Monday.
We found out in math today that we know a lot more multiplication facts than we thought. Ask your child which ones we haven't practiced much yet. And speaking of practice, your child should have some brand new math triangles in his/her backpack that includes that hardest facts. They can practice with them anytime.
We read a story about a boy who was a lot like his dad today and then we started our own paragraphs about how we're like one of our parents. Ask your child who he/she is writing about and have him/her tell you the ways they're alike. I'm sure you can help them know some ways they're like dad or mom. (I'll try to post some of the paragraphs next week).
Don't forget to sign and send back the bottom of the mid term report and book orders are due on Friday.
Homework tonight is to go over the Social Studies test we took in class today. The hardest part is the essay. See if your child answered the three questions and wrote complete thoughts with capitals and ending marks.
We started a new chapter in math that picks up where we left off in multiplication. Look for harder multiplication facts coming home soon.
Mr. Salzman spoke to us about our morning responsibilities. Then we worked on putting verbs into the right tense and wrapped up the day making a list of how we are like our parents or grandparents. Ask your child in what ways they are like you. We'll be writing about that tomorrow.

We took a math test this morning and started another science experiment about evaporation. Ask your child what we're checking each morning and afternoon this week.
Our reading skill is generalizing. Don't forget about the late start on Wednesday!
Isaac had the best Super Bowl guess (he picked the Colts 30-17).
Homework tonight is spelling practice. I also sent home a couple of book orders for you to see and gave out the new Pizza Hut reading calendar (goal: 475 minutes for February, still less than 20 minutes a night).
We learned about polyhedrons today and even built one in class. (Ask your child what I'm talking about it.) We also talked about transportation and began discussing communications when we ran out of time in social studies.
This afternoon we read about spiders and did another power writing assignment. Wait till you see their improved writing next week!
I'm off to my first head coaching stint - Kindergarten basketball!
