Homework tonight is an easy math page. Your child shouldn't have any problem finding the shapes that are congruent.
Another important page went home tonight. Look for a bright yellow page informing you of our scheduled late starts the first Wednesday of each month for the rest of the year.
We were introduced to what an entrepreneur is and what profit means in social studies. We learned shapes are congruent if they're the same size and shape in math.
We read a good story about a student overcoming his fear of stage fright in reading and did some power writing to end the day.
Homework tonight is the usual - spelling. Here's the list of words for this week:
careful
beautiful
wonderful
helpful
graceful
really
finally
sadly
lively
happily
easily
action
suggestion
decision
conclusion
Bonus Words:

In science we discovered that water is heavier than the same amount of ice. Ask your child how we know and why it is. We also learned what symmetry means today. Ask your child to find a line of symmetry at home.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. Don't forget there's no school Friday (for students) so our spelling test will be tomorrow morning.
This morning we observed what happened to the water in the syringe and vial when it froze. Ask your child what happened and why. We heard the middle school Jazz band and then did a little math. Your child should know a little about measuring angles in degrees.
This afternoon we read some more of our exciting book "The Tale of Depereaux" and then took a comprehension test on the story that was read yesterday. We ended the day learning the different tenses of verbs and then writing sentences in different tenses.
I hope you will all have a good night. (future tense)
Homework tonight is spelling practice. This week's words are:

In math we made and drew angles. We experimented with hot and cold water in science. Ask your child which is denser cold or hot water? How did we observe it?
We learned about text structure in reading and took our spelling pretest late this afternoon.
More tomorrow!
Hey, we're back to over 9 hours of daylight. WooHoo!
Have a good weekend. I'm rooting for the Colts and Saints.
Spelling is the page for tonight's homework. We'll take our final test tomorrow morning.
We took a social studies test this morning and learned about polygons in math. Ask your child how he/she would distinguish between a regular polygon and an irregular one. (Hint: It has nothing to do with the amount of fiber intake).
This afternoon we finished reading the last of the Washington Choice Books and will vote on our favorite one tomorrow. Ask your child which one was his/her favorite. We also took a reading comprehension test and started our final draft from last night's homework (thanks for checking them last night, parents).
Tomorrow's Friday!
Homework tonight is to do some revising and editing. We wrote a rough draft of "How to Make a Cup of Hot Chocolate" in class this afternoon. Please help your child make his/her directions more detailed and check it over for spelling, capitals, and ending marks. Then put your initials or signature on the page somewhere so we can verify.
We learned about quadrangles in math and read "Tops and Bottoms" in reading. We had fun experimenting with homemade thermometers in hot and cold water in science. Ask your child what happens to water when it is heated and cooled.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Here's this week's list of words:

We learned a little about our neighbor Canada today. Ask your child how it is like us and how it is different. How did it gain its independence?
We worked with triangles in math and learned about summarizing in reading.
Homework tonight is a math page. We learned about parallel and intersecting lines, rays, and segments.
In science we experimented with water running down a slope and we read "What do Authors do" this afternoon in reading. We also wrote another set of directions.
Book orders are due on Friday.
Homework tonight is a grammar page of verbs (action and linking).
We started a new chapter in math on geometry. Ask your child what a segment, line, and ray are and how to name them. We also found out how many drops of water will bead up on top of a penny. Ask how many drops were placed on the penny and ask them how so many drops could sit on top. Give them 50 points if they use the words "surface tension".
Mr. Salzman talked to the class about bullying behavior and we wrote some directions. We practiced numbering our directions and starting each one with an action word.
Don't forget book orders are due Friday.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. Here's this week's words:

Bonus Words:

We also took a math test on decimals. This afternoon we learned about "steps in a process", read, and took our spelling pretest.
I hope you noticed my prediction of a Seahawk win came true. Tonight is college football's national championship game featuring the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Florida Gators. I'll pick the Buckeyes to win and later in the week I'll give my pick for the Seahawk/Bears matchup coming up on Sunday. Here's a hint: It will be different than their earlier Monday Night game.
We take a math test on decimals on Monday and get back to spelling as well. Book orders will be due next Friday.
Have a good weekend. The Seahawks host the Cowboys tomorrow at 5:00. I think the Hawks are going to win in spite of their many injuries. But I do have to admit that when I was a third grader the Cowboys were my favorite team. I'll be rooting for the Hawks, but if the 'Boys beat them then I'll be back to being a Cowboys fan for the rest of the playoffs. Your pick?
Homework tonight is making a line graph. We did one in math today using the data from our sunrise/sunset chart.
We started a new science unit on water today. We observed what water does when it lands on various surfaces and saw the shape it forms. Ask your child about beading and absorbing.
This afternoon we did some reading, worked on making singular nouns plural, and finished the day doing some individual writing.
I also passed out the January book order that won't be due until next Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday.
We're underway in the new year. Well, for the most part, that is. I forgot to copy off the homework tonight. I did remember to send home the new Pizza Hut minutes calendar, so they can start reading for homework tonight.
This morning we learned about three different explores (Columbus, Cabrillo, Champlain). Ask your child what they explored. We also practice our decimal place values and even made a nifty tool to help us practice.
This afternoon we started judging this year's Washington's Children Choice Books and did some of our own reading as well. We ended the day practicing possessive nouns and writing about our favorite Christmas gifts. The students were excited to share about their favorite gifts.
Happy New Year!
