Homework tonight is spelling practice.
We took a math test this morning and worked some more on our play. Everyone has a part now and we're planning to begin rehearsals next week. Stay tuned for updates.
This afternoon we took some AR tests and explored Chris Van Allsburg's website. Then we came back to the room and wrote a story to go with his mystery picture of the month. We had some very creative starts.
Have a good evening.
Homework tonight is more practice with possessive nouns.
We learned how to use a scale on a map today and took a comprehension test on our story about Icebergs. We practiced more for the play and choose the "child" (a very difficult choice). We'll start reading through it tomorrow and assign the rest of the parts.
Don't forget to begin turning in "Book-It" calendars. If you lost the original calendar just send in a note telling me that your child read for at least 350 minutes during November.
Homework tonight is a grammar page of possessive nouns. There's quite a bit of instruction at the top of the page.
We began trying out for parts today. So far we have our Santa Claus, Conductor, Elves, and most of the passengers on the train. More tryouts tomorrow!
We also read about Icebergs, practiced multiplication, and took a social studies test. We also celebrated the Seahawks Monday night victory.
Have a good evening.
Homework is spelling practice. Here's this week's list of words:
large

orange
jeans
jam
jet
jelly
juggle
sometimes
center
pencil
silly
circle
cents
circus
Bonus Words:
furious
glorious
gratified
We wrote up our science experiment from last week and finished Pinocchio. Some students asked where they could get their own copy, so, by request, click here if you're in the mood for some Christmas shopping.
We also learned the difference between fact and opinion, took our spelling pretest, and read through our play "The Polar Express." We'll be starting tryouts tomorrow and next week hope to begin rehearsals. We'll be sending out invitations later to let you know the times and dates for our performances.
Have a good night watching the Seahawks beat up on the Packers.
Homework tonight is more fact triangles. You may have noticed that your child brought home a nice "Tree of Thanks" thanks to Mrs. Koller. She came in this morning and showed us how to make them. Thanks again, Mrs. Koller.
We played multiplication baseball for math and finally took some AR tests this afternoon. The students also enjoyed reading more about the pilgrims at this nice site: mayflowerhistory.com. We ended the day by reading about turkeys and then writing about our own Thanksgiving Day traditions.
Don't forget tomorrow's a half day.
Homework tonight is a math page on fact families for multiplication and division. We slowly started to study the facts and today we cut out fact triangles to help us practice. Your child should have his/hers in their notebook for you to see.
This morning in social studies we learned about government and a constitution. We read about working together with our neighbors to solve problems.
This afternoon we read about the pilgrims and then wrote what we're thankful for this year. Ask your child what he/she wrote.
Have a good evening.
Homework tonight is the usual Thursday assignment - spelling!
We started working on learning our multiplication facts today. We played a fun game of "Beat the Calculator" and talked about the many facts we already know. Ask your child about those facts.
We learned about the two houses of the Cherokee and the sad story of the "Trail of Tears." Ask your child why they had two homes.
This afternoon we looked at some real Indian artifacts and heard about them too. We took a reading test and passed out the book orders that arrived already.
Sadly we didn't have time for Pinocchio.
Homework tonight is a math page of multiplication/division story problems. The last two days we've been drawing pictures to help us solve division problems. Today we drew arrays to help us find the answer, but first we organized the data into diagram boxes. We also learned to write division problems three ways and learned the that the answer is called the quotient, the bigger number the dividend, and the smaller number being divided into the bigger number is called the divisor. It's fine to use drawings or objects to help solve the problems.
We compared the beetles to the crayfish and wrote five ways they were alike and different in a Venn diagram.
This afternoon we read "Tornado Alert" and wrote our own Emergency Broadcast message.
Have a good night.
Homework tonight is grammar practice turning singular nouns into plural nouns.
We practiced solving division problems by drawing pictures this morning. We also learned about economy through the Yurok Indians of California. Ask your child what the Yurok used for money.
This afternoon Mr. Salzman talked to us about what we have in our toolboxes and we ended the day writing clear and interesting subjects.
How's the Pizza Hut minutes going this month?
Homework tonight is spelling practice. This week's words are the difficult homophones, especially the three "theres". Here they are:
through
threw
hour
our
tail
tale
hole
whole
there
their
they're
weak
week
knows
nose
Bonus Words:
engage
evidence
fixture
We learned to draw arrays to help us solve multiplication problems and also learned the terms "factor" and "product". We met the Bess beetles officially in science. Ask your child what structures of the beetle they observed today. The next time we'll compare them to the crayfish.
During the afternoon we learned how helpful it is to use context clues to understand the meaning of unknown words. We figured out "appease" and "fatigue" without using a dictionary. Ask your child how we did that.
The crayfish are ready for new homes. Send me a note if you'd like a new pet.
Enjoy your evening.
Homework tonight is to enjoy a good book. No spelling this week due to lack of time. Tomorrow we'll finish our Veterans' Day acrostics and our Crayfish articles as well.
Don't forget the Veterans' Assembly at 8:00 Thursday morning and book orders are due tomorrow.
By popular demand click here to visit Line Rider and also notice I've added it to our links to the left.
Thanks for coming in for conferences.
Homework tonight is math practice. We started multiplication today and a lot of students seem to remember what they learned last year. We off to a smooth start.
Remember another half day tomorrow. We'll start on our Veterans' Day acrostics.
See you at conferences. Go Seahawks!
I'm running late! Have a good weekend.
Remember half days all next week. Your children will be loading the buses around 11:30 each morning (lunch is 10:20 - 11:00).
Homework tonight is spelling practice for the test tomorrow.
We took our math test on measuring today and took a quiz on the crayfish. Mr. Salzman talked to us this afternoon. When he finished we took a reading comprehension test and then worked on our crayfish articles. We'll finish them up next week and get them turned in to Mrs. A.
I only need to know about a couple more conferences and picture retakes are on the 8th.
It's snowing right now in Chattaroy!
Homework tonight is a grammar page of nouns. Don't worry about writing the article on the back.
We practiced measurement in math today in preparation for the chapter test tomorrow. We learned a little bit about the Navajo Indians particularly their culture.
We read a fun story called "Guys from Space" and then tried to write in the same simple style. We also enjoyed some extra P.E. time due to the good behavior of your children in P.E. This is a good class.
Don't forget to let me know if your conference time will work. I also sent home the November book order and will accept orders until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
