Homework tonight is a spelling page.
We've finished the last WASL test so tomorrow we'll celebrate with the other third graders and have an extended Fun Friday. We're also going to do some watercoloring in the morning...it should be a great Friday.
I completed my homework last night.
My assistant forgot to make copies for homework, so homework tonight is to have your child show you how to do a two-digit multiplication problem in the partial product and lattice algorithms.
The last WASL test is tomorrow morning.
We learned about producers, consumers, supply, and demand today in social studies and took a reading test. We also practiced taking notes in preparation for our biography reports. Ask your child what famous deceased person they would like to learn about.
A Superstar Review went home today.
My homework tonight is to mow and trim the lawn.
Homework tonight is a page of double digit multiplication that we learned about yesterday. Your child should do each problem two ways: lattice and partial products.
We finished the last reading WASL test today. On Thursday we'll do our last WASL test - math.
Tomorrow the fire department will visit us and each child will have the opportunity to go through the EDITH house. I believe EDITH stands for "Exit drills in the home". It's good safety instruction and the kids love it.
We read the story "Brave Irene" today and then wrote about a time we or someone we know was brave.
What's your family's favorite G-rated movie?
Homework tonight is spelling practice as usual.
In math we learned the beginnings of multiplying a two-digit number by a two-digit number. We did problems like 73 x 40 using the partial products and lattice algorithms. The students did really well for the first time. We'll practice more after the WASL tomorrow.
We also had a lot of fun with science today. Ask your child how he/she discovered where the magnets were hidden in the box.
We learned about predicting in our reading and got our new books from the book order.
I heard about several Adam Morrison sightings this weekend (one was proven with an autograph). I saw my first hummingbird of the year yesterday afternoon.
Have a good night.
Homework tonight is spelling practice in preparation for tomorrow's final test.
We did Math Test 2 for WASL testing today. The next WASL test will be Tuesday of next week. Tomorrow we plan on having a normal Friday, and we're looking forward to it.
This afternoon we wrote about an unusual experience. According to the paragraphs there have been a lot of cougar sighting around here!
I got the copies made. Homework tonight is a math page where students practice both the multiplication algorithms.
We made it through Reading Test 1 on the WASL today and are looking forward to the second Math Test tomorrow morning.
This afternoon we practiced some more on pronouns, wrote a paragraph, and also read a story about a duckling named Chibi.
Also contrary to the rumors, I am not turning pro and plan to be back next week.
We had a good start on the WASL this morning. Everyone did their best and followed directions well. Tomorrow we'll take the first Reading Test.
Since we worked so hard on the WASL and I didn't have time to make copies, there's no homework tonight.
We learned about pronouns this afternoon and wrote a paragraph about what else - the WASL!
Have a good night.
The Yo-Yo Man gave us a great show and a great message. Ask your child what NED stands for.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. The bonus words this week are unexpected, unpleasant, and underneath.
Don't forget WASL testing begins tomorrow morning at 9:45!
Get a good night's rest!
We learned a fun, new multiplication algorithm today called "lattice multiplication." The homework tonight will provide a chance for your child to show you how it's done. It doesn't have to become the primary way they do multiplication, but many students find it helpful at this point.
We proved that magnetic strength does weaken as magnets are moved away from one another. Ask your child what experiment we did to prove it.
After Mr. Salzman talked to us about bullying, we practiced taking the WASL once again.
Have a good night.
Homework is another math page, and again it might be a little difficult. It's okay to use calculators like we did in class, but we discovered that we still have to think when we use them. We have to put the answer back in context so that it makes sense especially when there are remainders. For example if a farmer was putting his eggs into cartons and we discovered that he would need 20.5 cartons, how many eggs is .5?
We learned some interesting new words in social studies today like "opportunity cost", "competition", and "scarcity". See if your child remembers what any of those words mean.
You'll notice that I finally remembered to send home the information concerning the WASL testing next week. Please read it and let me know if you have any questions. We did some more WASL testing practice this afternoon.
Good night!
Tonight's homework is a pretty tough math page. Today we began to learn how to divide larger numbers by using money. You'll see it on the homework page.
We had a lot of fun with science this morning. The students figured out how to set up an experiment to test the strength of magnets. Asked them how they did it.
This afternoon we enjoyed reading a story about Charles Lindberg and we began practicing for the WASL tests. A week from today we take our first WASL test, so today we did a sample reading test together and will try one on our own tomorrow. Start eating those veggies!
Have a good evening.
Welcome back from Spring Break. I hope everyone had a nice break.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. This week's theme is adding -s or -es to the end of words. Our bonus words this week: thunderous, tomorrow, and torpedo.
We learned what a "factor" of a number is today and praciticed our partial products algorithm. We also reviewed social studies and discussed making judgements in our reading. We ended the day with a review of nouns and our spelling pretest.
Have a good evening.
