Homework tonight is math practice.
We spent the morning working on our Home posters/essays and math boxes. I hope tomorrow to put the penpal letters in envelopes and get them on their way to Taiwan soon.
P.E. tomorrow and conferences continue.
No homework page tonight due to my television commerical acting career. But, I told everyone that some reading and multiplication practice would be a good replacement idea.
We worked on the rough drafts of "What My Home Means to Me" and practiced our multiplication algorithm. If you get a chance ask your child what his/her home does mean to them.
Tomorrow we hope to finish up our penpal letters...if I can only remember to bring the camera!
Homework tonight is a difficult math page. Today we learned a multiplication algorithm for the first time. Some kids "get it" already, but there are many others still struggling to understand. So homework might require more help than usual.
Don't forget half days start tomorrow. We hope to accomplish three things this week: Finish our penpal letters, make a gift for penpals (suggestions?), and enter the "What My Home Means to Me" poster/essay contest.
I'm looking forward to seeing you this week.
Homework tonight is to root the Zags on to victory over UCLA at 7:00!
Homework tonight is a grammar page practicing capitalization.
We continued to learn about multiplying numbers like 6 x 37 in math and worked on our penpal letters. We don't have takers yet for a chess match, but we're working on it. We also read about the Kennewick Man in our Time for Kids magazine.
Don't forget tomorrow is our Zag's Day, so wear your Gonzaga hat or shirt.
Go Zags!
Homework tonight is another math page. We tried multipling numbers like 6 x 53 in our heads. Don't expect your child to be very good at it yet.
We started a new science kit today on magnetism and electricity. Ask your child what sticks to magnets.
We're almost done with our penpal letters too. We finished off our chess match with Mr. Salzman and sent out a new challenge to Mr. Hansen (our superintendent) and Elen DeGeneres (talk show host and voice in "Finding Nemo"). We'll see who takes up our challenge. If you have any other suggestions let me know. I might try tthe Governor too.
Go Zags!
No spelling this week because we're in between units. So, homework tonight is math practice. You'll see how your child is doing with fact memorization.
Ask your child if he/she can explain why the moon has phases. Maybe they can even do a demonstration at home with a flashlight and a ball. Who knows?
Please return your conference slip as soon as possbile so I can reschedule.
Have a good evening and Go Zags!
Remember no school tomorrow (unless you're a teacher). Also don't forget our Pizza Party on Monday!
Notice that I added a new link to the left: Email Chess. Email chess is how we play Mr. Salzman each day. After we beat him we'll be looking for a new opponent. Any takers out there?
Enjoy your day off!
Sorry I missed you yesterday, I was home with a coughing boy.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. Remember tomorrow is our Friday due to the LID day on the 17th.
We took a math test today on fractions and a social studies test on government. I hope to have them both graded by Monday. We're still working hard on our penpal letters and still playing chess against Mr. Salzman (we might have him on the ropes!).
Our Pizza Party from the PTO has been scheduled for Monday. So don't worry about lunch Sunday night! Don't forget to let me know if your conference time works or not.
Have a good evening.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. The bonus words this week are suspended, talkative, and temporary.
For math today we solved number stories involving fractions. We'll take a test on fractions on Wednesday. We also learned about the United Nations today in social studies.
This afternoon we survived the latest chess move from Mr. Salzman and talked about predicting in our reading. We ended the day with a pretest in spelling.
Please let me know if the conference time I scheduled will work.
Have a good night.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice.
We learned about mixed numbers in fractions today. We discovered the 3/2 is the same 1 1/2. We also learned more about the moon. We enjoyed listening to the Apollo 11 landing and Neil Armstrong's first words from the moon. Do you remember?
We had a lot of fun this afternoon learning about savings accounts, bonds, and stocks from our reading books. We ended the day with the second parapraph to our Taiwanese penpals. We told them what it's like to live in America. Ask your child what he/she wrote.
Edward Tulane dreamed of having wings and flying away to Sara Ruth, but his friends wouldn't let him go. He has been restored by the doll maker thanks to Bryce. The doll maker fixed his head, but what about his heart?
Have a good evening.
The students were excited to start writing back to our new penpals this afternoon. We wrote a rough draft of the first paragraph where we describe ourselves. Tomorrow we'll do a rough draft about what it's like to live in the U.S.A.
This morning we continued to compare fractions. Ask your child how they can tell if a fraction is equivalent to one half, greater than, or less than one half. We also learned about our National Government and read about the three branches.
Edward Tulane was dancing in Memphis until the terrible incident at Neal's Diner.
Homework tonight is a fraction math page.
Popcorn Thursday is tomorrow!
We had an exciting afternoon. We opened the letters from our Taiwanese penpals. The students enjoyed seeing their pictures, reading their beautiful handwriting, and seeing the bookmarks they made for us. We'll be writing them back this week and thinking of what we can make for them.
We continued to learn about fractions in math and started learning a little about the moon for science. It was a sad day for Edward Tulane.
Homework tonight is a grammar page on capitalization.
Tonight's homework is the usual for a Monday: Spelling.
In math we cut out fraction cards (they should be in your child's noteboo) and found equivalent fractions by comparing the blue space. Some students discovered that there's also a pattern in the numbers that make up the fraction. We discussed state goverment for social studies. See if your chld can tell you the three brances of state government.
This afternoon we practiced finding comparisons and contrasts in our Time for Kids magazine and took our spelling pretest. We also challenged Mr. Salzman to an email chess match!
Go Zags!
Tonight's homework is spelling practice.
We divided lines up into fractions today and glued them into our math journals (later they'll help us compare fractions). We also took a science test this morning and finished up our unit on water. Up next is electricity and magnetism.
This afternoon after reading our book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane we listened to Mr. Salzman talk about resolving conflicts. We ended the day with a reading comprehension test and more on adverbs.
Is tomorrow Friday?
Homework tonight is fraction practice.
This morning we did some more exploring in math and looked at our "condesation chambers" in science. Ask your child to tell you about those chambers.
This afternoon we read "Thunder Cake" from our reading books, learned what an adverb is, and then listened to Mrs. Dennis read a Dr. Suess book.
Look for the last Pizza Hut calendar and a note from Mrs. Hively in your chld's backpack.
Have a good evening.
