Homework tonight is a math page practicing place value up to one million.

Remember to turn in Pizza Hut minutes soon for November and look for December's calendar to go home tomorrow.  I'm also asking for book orders to be turned in by tomorrow.  If the order is a Christmas present, then write me a note and I'll keep it from your child until you pick it up.

Have a good night.  The Zags are on at 5:00 tonight.

Homework tonight is a math page comparing numbers.  We practiced in class today, so homework isn't anything new.  Tomorrow we'll be learning place values up to a million.  Yahoo!

Our read throughs for our play went really well today.  Several students already have their parts memorized and are expressing themselves well.  Tomorrow we'll go down to the activity room and begin learning our places.  I've have an invitation ready sometime next week with all our performance times, but I can tell you that we'll have morning performances on the 14, 15, and 16; and afternoon performances on the 15 and 16.  I'm just not sure what the exact starting times will be yet (I need to check recess times and such).

Enjoy your Tuesday evening.

Homework tonight is spelling practice.

We've assigned all the parts for our play and will be practicing each afternoon.   It will help if your child will begin practicing and memorizing lines at home.  We hope to start blocking it out on Wednesday.

We started a new chapter in math on place value.  Today we worked with number up to the ten thousands place.

Enjoy the MNF game tonight:  The undefeated Colts at home against the Steelers.  Do you know that the Hawks play the Colts on Christmas Eve?

Homework tonight is to learn and practice the cursive letter "j".

This morning n math we learned how to estimate distances on a map using the map scale (and a little multiplication).  In social studies we learned a little about our neighbor to the north - Canada.  Ask your child how they achieved their independence.

This afternoon we started assigning parts to our play.  So far Sam is our Santa and Ezra is the conductor.  More tryouts tomorrow.

We ended the day by writing what we're thankful about this year.  Ask your child what he/she wrote.

The Zags are on at 4:00.  We want a repeat of yesterday!  Go Zags!

We'll be starting our try-outs for our Christmas play The Polar Express tomorrow.  Homework tonight is to read through the play at least once and have a couple of parts to try-out for in mind.

We enjoyed listening to Grandma Magpie this morning.  Ask your child who she is and what she talked about.

This morning we learned about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  Ask your child which one came first and see if they can even tell you how they are different.  Or maybe ask them which one we celebrate on the Fourth of July.

Go Zags!

Look for two notes from school.  One is information concerning the Turkey Trot that starts on Monday, and the other concerns the Bake Sale.

No homework, of course, and enjoy your weekend.

Tonight's homework is spelling practice.

We practiced our multiplication facts today in the computer room.  If you would like to play Multiplication Baseball with your child at home, then click the Everyday Mathematics link to the left, click on "Kid's Corner" at the top, then click on our math journal or 3rd grade, finally choose "Unit 4", and you'll see the 1 or 2 player version of the game.  The students seemed to enjoy playing it.

Have a good night.

Tonight's homework is a bit unusual.  In social studies this week we learned what a timeline is, so I've asked the students to create their own timeline tonight.  They are suppose to place some significant events of their lives on the line like when they were born, went to school, etc.  Please help them think of some of those events.

We're still practicing multiplication facts in math.  Ask your child about the fun way we practiced today.

We wrote about our favorite weather this afternoon.  Ask your child what their favorite weather is and where it occurred.

Have a good evening.

Try to take a look at tonight's math homework page.  The first page is a note to you explaining the use of fact triangles.  Your child should have some in his/her notebook and feel free to practice with them anytime.  You'll notice that the ones we have now are pretty easy, harder ones will follow.

Ask your child how strong our beetles are.  We had a fun time today watching them pull large paperclips.  We were all amazed at their strength.

This afternoon we practices plural nouns and wrote about the worst weather we've ever experienced.

Quite the football game last night.  I still can't believe the Cowboys pulled that one out.  Until tomorrow...

I enjoyed chatting with all of you during conference week.  Thanks for coming in and feel free to leave a comment or call anytime.

We're back to normal this week, but only this week, next week we have another abbreviated week due to Thanksgiving.

For math today we discovered that we know quite a few of the multiplication facts.  We're going to start working on memorizing the facts, but the real emphasis won't take place until this spring.

In social studies we learned about three different explorers and dicovered how important trade was to them.  Ask your child what Columbus was looking for we he left Spain.

Homework tonight is spelling practice.  Spend some time learning the three forms of there.

Enjoy your evening, and Go Cowboys!

Homework tonight is spelling practice.

In math today we learned how to make an array to solve multiplication problems.  For science we finally got to meet the bess beetles.  Ask your child if he/she can tell you why a beetle is an insect.

This afternoon we read last week's Time for Kids issue about saving the great apes and we ended the day by hearing Nathan's great Halloween fantasy story.   Way to go, Nathan.

The conference rescheduling is going well.  I hope to finish up tomorrow.  Enjoy your evening.

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

Homework tonight is a math page.  Today we started learning about multiplication by using a problem solving diagram box that you'll see on the homework.  Your child won't be an expert on their facts yet, but they should be able to find the answer by using addtion or a drawing.

We enjoyed the fantasy story "Guys from Space" this afternoon.  We then tried to write our own fantasy paragraph that we'll continue tomorrow.  Ask your child the difference between fantasy and realism.

The conference slips are coming in.  I'll get back to those who need to reschedule soon.  If you're at the school in the next day or two and need to reschedule, then make sure you stop by and see me.

Have a good evening.  Picture retakes are tomorrow.

Tuesday, November 01, 2005

Thanks for everyone who helped to make our Halloween so nice yesterday.   I was impressed with the self-control the students displayed yesterday as they waited all day for their party.  I know they weren't disappointed.

Homework tonight is a reading skill page.  Your child should be able to distinguish between realistic elements and fantasy in a story selection.

Look for the conference schedule confirmation note in your chld's binder.  Please let me know as soon as possible if the time I scheduled will work for you.  If it doesn't, let me know and we'll reschedule to fit your needs.  I do have some Wednesday evening slots available presently.

Have a good evening.
