A big thank you to Mrs. Truman, Mrs. Lenz, and Mrs. Allred for the first-class art project they lead us in the this morning. The beautiful pieces are hanging up in the hallway outside our room. Come in and see them. We'll be sending them home in another week or so.
Big news for next week. I have jury duty. I don't know how many days I'll be out, but I know I won't be here on Monday. I'll try to post to this blog and keep you updated.
I sent home calendars to keep track of reading minutes for the Pizza Hut Reading program. Our goal, as you can see on the calendar, is 300 minutes for October. That's less than 10 minutes a night. Please participate in this easy and rewarding (free pizzas!) program.
Hope to see you next week. Enjoy your weekend.
How did the homework go last night? Is your child making some sense of the extended facts?
Homework tonight is much easier: Spelling practice.
I'm late, so that's all for tonight.
Math got a little tougher today as we did extended facts. As tonight's math homework page demonstrates, we practiced extending a basic fact such as 6 + 5 = 11 to 26 + 5 = 31 and 56 + 5 = 61. As you can see, it's important that your child has a pretty good grasp on the basic facts in order to find success with the extended facts. Keep practicing and feel free to cut short the homework page if it gets too frustrating for your child.
We enjoyed another science lesson this morning. Ask your child how we're going to find out how much water is absorbed by five lima beans. We'll find out the results tomorrow.
We finished the day working on statements and questions. By the way, Aslan crushed the Witch in our story after restoring all the animals that had been turned into stone. Narnia is going to be a much better place without her!
We moved on to chapter two in our math books with its focus on addition and subtraction. Tonight's homework page is more practice on fact triangles.
We talked about the effect climate has on communities in Social Studies and practiced some more subject and predicates in writing.
Enjoy your evening.
We had a good Monday. We took our first math test and started to learn about the geography of different comunities. We also took a look at the seeds we soaked in water. Ask your child what they observed.
Tonight's homework is spelling practice. The bonus words for this week are amphibious and appetite. Don't worry about the bonus words if your child is having trouble with the regular list.
Chiefs and Broncos tonight on MNF. I'll be rooting for the Chiefs. How 'bout them Seahawks?
Enjoy the weekend. It was nice meeting many of you at Open House last night. No homework on the weekends!
We enjoyed our science lesson this morning. Ask your child if he/she thinks a seed will grow with only water.
See you Monday.
We're back to normal: Homework tonight is a math page.
We have one more day of SOAR Testing. Tomorrow we will do the last two nonverbal tests.
Several corrected tests were returned to your child today. Check their binders to see how they did.
Don't forget Open House tomorrow night.
Homework tonight breaks the normal routine. I sent home a grammar page for homework. Now calm down it's not too bad. The students just need to recognize the difference between the subject and predicate. The top of the page provides a nice definition of the two terms. It won't be bad at all.
We had a good start on SOAR testing today. We did two verbal test and tomorrow we'll do one more verbal and start the nonverbal tests.
More money practice in math.
Have a good evening.
Homework tonight is a spelling page.
We did our first science lesson today on plants. It was one of those rare days when a student actually thanked me for the lesson. It must have been pretty good. Ask your child if they can tell you what we did for science (hint: we hunted for seeds).
We practiced money in math and took our spelling pretest this afternoon.
Some important FYI's:
I'm busy tonight, so I'll make this brief. Homework tonight is a spelling page. We take our first final test tomorrow.
Please see the notes from shool concerning the "Trek-a-Thon" and Book Fair.
Tomorrow we'll start our Fun Friday. Students who have all their work completed will be able to go outside for extra recess or play bingo.
Tomorrow's Friday!
Homework tonight is a math page of name collection boxes. Your child should be able to tell you what that is because of today's math lesson.
The science kits came in today so next week we'll do our first science lesson on "Structures of Life". I hear the crayfish are coming on the 28th or 29th. I'm sure you'll hear it about when they arrive.
This afternoon we practiced sentences and started another four square. This time the topic is "All About Me". Ask your child what he/she wrote about themselves.
Enjoy your evening. What a beautiful day for tennis. I'm on the courts at 4:15!
We started the day learning more about communities. Today we learned that there are different kinds of community: urban, suburban, and rural. Ask your child what kind of community Chattaroy is.
For math this morning we found out there are more letters in our last names than first names by making a tally chart and graph. We used the words "maximum", "minimum", "range", and "mode".
This afternoon we read "My Summer Vacation" by Mark Teague and finished up our Four Square writing from last week. We also discussed what a sentence is and how to write one correctly.
Homework tonight is a spelling page.
How do you like the notebooks?
Homework tonight is a math page practicing telling time. Make sure you check out your child's brand new notebook. Hopefully it will be a great tool for communication and teaching organizational skills for your child. It should go home each night and come back in the morning.
This morning we went to an entertaining assembly with some young adults from San Diego. They sang and talked about the six pillars of good character with an emphasis upon personal responsibility. See if your child can remember any of the six pillars. Will find out how effective the assembly was.
Eagle vs. Falcons on Monday Night Football. Enjoy your evening.
Enjoy your weekend. The Seahawks are at Jacksonville to open their season. I'm picking the Hawks to open with a win.
Thank you for returning the various forms so promptly. There are still some that need to be turned in.
No homework of course. Have a good weekend.
Day Two went fine. We did the second math lesson using our Class Number Grid and added a detail to our four square writing. We also discussed what a community is and how the people of the community are the most important part.
I sent home the first homework assignment. It's a math page practicing place value. Also please sign and return the Internet Use and Media Permission forms soon.
The NFL season kicks off tonight with the Raiders vs. The World Champion Patriots. Can anyone beat the Patriots?
How 'bout that Agassi match last night?
