Because of an article in our Time for Kids magazine I've added a new link. Please check it out to the left. It's a link to the newest food pyramid. You can go to the site and customize the food pyramid for your and your child and also get some great tips on adding vegetables and fruit to your diet. Do you know how much is a cup of strawberries? Go to our new link and find out!
Homework tonight is spelling practice.
WASL testing is done!
This afternoon we had a great time learning how to light a lightbulb with two wires and a D-Cell. Ask your child how they did it. Then ask him/her how it was done with one wire? We learned the terms: source, receiver, circuit , and component.
Enjoy your Friday Eve!
Homework tonight is an opportunity for you to learn how to do lattice multiplication. Let your child show you the fun and easy way we learned how to do multiplication problems today.
If you have a home computer, your child might also ask for your help in writing his/her poem and printing it. Please include a graphic as well. We did an example of one in class today so your child should have a good idea of my expectations. If you don't have a computer, we'll do it in class over the next couple of days.
Don't forget the final WASL test is tomorrow morning from 8:30 -10:00.
Homework tonight is a math page of story problems. Calculators may be used, although the students found out today that using a calculator doesn't mean shutting off your brain. Context still matters.
The Reading WASL went well today...no complaints.
Pizza tomorrow for lunch!
It's Monday, so homework tonight is spelling. Encourage your child to write their answers in cursive.
Don't forget we do the reading WASL tomorrow morning from 8:30 - 10:00.
We also get our reward for having the most participation in the recent PTO fundraiser on Wednesday: Pizza for lunch!
Have a good weekend. What a beautiful afternoon.
We wish Kirsten the best as she moves to Kettle Falls. Have a great end of the year in your new home, Kirsten!
Homework tonight is a spelling page in preparation for tomorrow's final test.
The Math portion of the WASL is done. Remember next week on Tuesday and Thursday we will take the reading portion.
This afternoon we enjoyed our science lesson on breaking the force of magnetism. The students first task was to figure out how to test the strength of the magnets using a balance scale and some washers. We discussed creating standards so that every group did it the same. Then we used a graph to help us make predictions. It was a lot of fun and very educational.
Tomorrow's Friday!
Homework tonight is a grammar page about nouns. We did most of it in class, so it should be pretty easy.
Day Two of our WASL testing has been successfully completed. Be rested up for the final session of math tomorrow. Don't forget the reading WASL will be on Tuesday and Thursday next week.
We learned about our national government this afternoon. Ask your child what the three branches of our government are and see if they can tell you some of the symbols of our country.
Enjoy your evening. It's almost Friday!
Session One of the Math WASL is finished. The students seemed to think they did pretty well. We'll do Session Two tomorrow morning at 8:30. Bring it on!
Homework tonight is a math page dealing with factors. I hope your child can tell you what a factor is.
This afternoon we learned some more about magnets. We learned about tempory magnets and induced magnetism.
Keep WASLing!
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Leave a comment below if you'd like me to list the spelling words here on the blog tomorrow.
Don't forget WASL testing starts tomorrow morning at 8:30.
Get a good night's rest and have a good breakfast. Send any leftovers to school!
Notice the new link to the left: "Chess Kids Academy." Click on it for some great chess teaching.
Look in your child's backpack for a letter from our math program explaining the algorithms we'll be using for multiplication. After reading the letter you'll be able to amaze your child with your new superpower math skills!
Homework tonight is spelling practice.
We learned some more about magnets this afternoon. Ask your child what two forces are associated with magnets. (See if they remember the word "repel").
The Mariners won again in KC 10-2!
Homework tonight is some more math practice. The students will need to decide if they need to estimate or find the exact answer.
For writing this week we've been learning about different ways to write poems. Today we learned how to write a haiku. Tomorrow we attempt to write some limmericks.
For social studies this afternoon we discussed the steps a citizen goes through to vote and we discussed listening to and present our own point of view.
Have a good evening. The Mariners won 2-1 today.
In math we're learning an algorithm that helps us multiply a two- or three-digit number by a single digit (for example: 6 x 47). You'll be able to see how your child is doing on this new concept with tonight's math homework page. Don't be discouraged if your child isn't an expert yet, we'll continue to work on it in class over the next week.
Don't miss the important letter that went home with your child concerning the WASL testing next week.
We started our last science kit today. Ask your child what he/she learned about magnets today.
Have a good night!
