Homework tonight is to write a summary of the biography report. Each student has a page with a boy or girl "head" on it filled with lines in which to write their summary. It shouldn't be as detailed as the report, but just one paragraph giving the highlights of the person's life.
The biography reports went well again today. The students are demonstrating how well they researched their person and are discovering that oral reports are just plain fun.
The last of the reports should be given tomorrow.
Homework tonight is a comparative fractions math page.
We had another great bunch of biography reports today (Tracey, see the note for you in yesterday's comments). We're looking forward to another great bunch of them tomorrow. Kudos to all you parents who obviously gave a lot of help. It shows!
Homework tonight is to correct the spelling pretest and begin practicing the words that are troublesome.
We had a successful start to our biography reports today. The students noticed how important it is to speak louldly and clearly. They also discovered that reports don't have to be long to be effective. In fact reports that get too long loose effectiveness. Something to think about!
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Remember tomorrow is a half day so our final spelling test will be tomorrow.
The presentation schedule for biography reports went home today. Let me know if you want to make any changes to your child's scheduled time.
Homework tonight is a math page as promised.
I also sent home your conference time (green paper). As always, let me know know if I gave you a bad time and we can reschedule.
Keep working away on the biography report. Tomorrow we'll talk about how to conclude the speech. If you need more information on your child's famous person, I would recommend a "google" search or visit the Encarta website.
Tonight's homework is to begin practicing this week's spelling words by correcting today's pretest. Remember our final test will be on Thursday this week due to no school on Friday. Don't forget Thursday is a half-day for students.
We started a new chapter in math today on fractions. Look for math homework tomorrow night.
How are the biography reports coming along? This week your child should finish writing his/her presentation. Today we talked about how to begin our reports in an interesting manner through a question or a retelling of an exciting part of our famous person's life. Tomorrow we'll talk about the body of the report and how to write and use notecards. Wednesday will be how to conclude our reports. Look for a presentation schedule by Wednesday.
More on magnets tomorrow.
It's true! No Homework tonight. Well, actually everybody needs to be working on their biography reports so do that for homework instead.
Homework tonight is to prepare for tomorrow's math test by practicing multiplication facts with their fact triangles (if they've lost them then flashcards, a calculator, or a computer game will do the trick - click the "Everyday Mathematics" link to the left and play one of their on-line games).
How is your child's biography report coming along? He/she should just be in the fact-finding phase right now - doing a lot of reading of his/her famous person.
Science went much better today as I assigned some team leaders who really helped. We learned that magnets create a force of attraction and repulsion. The students had a great time watching the magic of magnetism.
Homework tonight is a math page.
We started our new science program today. Each student has a letter introducing our study of electricity and magnetism. Everyone enjoyed working with the magnets today and discovered that they can be used as iron/steel detetectors. We need to practice how to work with others in a group. Tomorrow we will find out how magnets work together.
Homework tonight is a grammar page that was started in class. Your child will practice using irregular verbs in sentences.
Look in your child's notebook for an important letter concerning our biography reports. Today each student picked someone to begin studying. If you would like to change your child's choice, please let me know by tomorrow. Our first goal is to read as much as we can about our chosen person and then begin taking notes on the categories listed on the letter home. We will be presenting the reports in about two weeks. I will send home another letter next week with a speaking schedule for the week of March 22-26. It is a project that will require your help.
The new science lessons begin tomorrow!
Mrs. Crabtree spent a couple hours this morning getting all our science materials ready for next week. Thank you, Mrs. Crabtree. We're looking forward to next week.
We celebrated the ending of testing week with some soda, popcorn and Lion King 11/2! Thanks for the soda, Mrs. Taylor!
Enjoy your weekend! ![]()
I'm here and the ITBS testing is over and done. The students felt like they did well, and I can report that their behavior during the test was outstanding. Don't be expecting any results in the mail until late May.
We're looking forward to a normal Friday tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to Mrs. Crabtree's help in setting up the science kits. I'm planning to start the lessons on Tuesday of next week. The units should take us at least 8 weeks to finish. It looks like it's going to be a great educational opportunity for us all.
Homework tonight is a page of spelling practice.
I'm home again this afternoon. Pete didn't sleep long yesterday afternoon before he woke up crying. An hour later the doctor told me why. He had a double ear infection. So I'm home administering an antibotic and a pain killer. Pete's sleeping well right now.
Tonight's homework is suppose to be a math page that continues our practice in extending the multiplication facts.
Testing went well again today. Tomorrow's the last day of testing, so Friday we return to normal.
I'm home this afternoon taking care of a sick little boy. Mom had to go in to work this afternoon, so I've taken over. Right now he's sleeping and hopefully will be feeling better when he wakes up. Before I left school, we finished all our ITBS tests for the day (Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension), and I'm happy to report that everyone felt pretty good about their performance. Tomorrow we'll take three more tests which will be on Math Concepts and Computation/Estimation. By the way, I do plan to be there in the morning. If little Pete is still sick I might have to come home again in the afternoon.
The sub (Mrs. Hyde) should be sending home a Grammar page for homework tonight.
Homework tonight is the usual Monday night spelling practice.
Don't forget tomorrow we start our ITBS testing. I plan to test each morning from 9:30-11:00. The afternoons I hope to devote to reading/language arts, and I hope to do some math each morning from 8:00-9:20. It should be a full week.
One more thing! Our class pictures will be Wednesday (a nice interruption), so a money envelope went home with your child today.
