We read through our Chirstmas play for the first time.  So far the feedback from the students has been very positive.  I would like some parents to read it, so I'll try to send home some copies for the weekend to get your feedback.  Please leave me a comment here or e-mail if you'd like to see a copy this weekend.  I would also appreciate some help on props and direction next week when we really go after it.  Play practice is going to take up most of our mornings over the next three weeks.

Homework tonight is to write a paragraph on "What I'm Thankful For" on the stationary provided.  (If your child has lost it, doing it on regular notebook paper is just fine).  We discussed that grocery list writing is not very interesting to read, so using details or telling why will be an improvement.

Have a good evening.

We practiced our multiplication facts today using fact triangles.  You can see them in your child's notebook.  We'll be using them in class to practice and I hope each student will practice some at home with them as well.  On Monday we'll have a lot of fun practicing as we learn how to play Multiplication Baseball.

After reading, we did revise our paragraph from yesterday.  I think the students were truly amazed that you can make your writing better with a little effort and time.

This afternoon we did a little science and then did our first Risk Watch lesson.  Today's lesson was fire and burn prevention.  Your child should have the handout in his/her notebook and even some graph paper to make an escape plan.  Hopefully it will make for some good dinnertime conversation.

Tonight's homework is a spelling page for preparation for tomorow's final test.  How's the dioramas going?

Have a good night!

Now that we understand what multiplication is, we've moved on to "fact power." Without peace symbols or flowers, we're beginning to practice our multiplication facts in order to memorize them. Today we discovered that we knew a lot more of them that we thought. As Christopher Robin would say, "We're smarter than we think." Tonight's homework is a math page that will demonstrate (I hope) just how many we already know.

After reading in groups, we practiced writing a paragraph together. Tomorrow we'll revise it.

This afternoon we took another one of our difficult social studies test. Most students finished and the ones who didn't should have it at home to continue working on it. We ended the day with some spelling practice.

Have a good evening and don't forget to work on your diorama!

Really quick...tonight's homework is to correct the spelling pretest with your child and sign it.  I'll be out in the morning, so Mrs. Florko will be in charge.  I'll be back in the afternoon.

Don't forget to work on the diorama.  How's the Pizza Hut minutes going this month?  There's a letter in your child's notebook concerning our feast next Wednesday.  Please fill it out and return it as soon as you can.  Thanks!

Tomorrow's Friday.  I kind of like these quick weeks.  This morning we continued learning about multiplication by using arrays.  You can see a little of what we've been doing with the homework page tonight.  Tonight's homework is really the lesson from yesterday, but you'll be able to see the diagram box that we're using to organize the data.  Hopefully your child won't have any problem with it.  Next we read through The Polar Express (our Christmas Play I hope) and discussed how many scenes we would need and the main characters.  We'll talk a lot more about this next week, I just wanted them to get a little sneak peek at it.  After our reading we talked about what makes a group of sentences a paragraph and wrote one together.  We'll be practicing this skill quite a bit over the next couple of weeks.  Also, before I forget, and important social studies homework page went home tonight.  Please look for it and I'll tel you more about it later.

Mrs. Florko taught the social studies lesson this afternoon.  We finished off the day with the Risk Watch Pretest.

I'm late....Have a good night.

Thursday, November 13, 2003

Well, I'm back. I enjoyed teaching the class today and am looking forward to some exciting projects in the near future (Thanksgiving feast and a class Christmas Play!).

In math today we began chapter four on multiplication and division. We learned that we can use multiplication when we're putting together equal groups. We also test-drove a new diagram box that will help us know when multiplication is the right operation for a story problem.

For reading we took some AR tests and did individual reading. Then we reviewed our writing and improved some barebone sentences. Tomorrow we'll practice writing paragraphs.

This afternoon we reviewed the social studies chapter on the Ojibwa Indians and started the test. Notice I wrote "started the test" because our homework tonight is to finish the test and check our anwers. Several parents voiced the idea of providing more help on the tests so I figured I would send this one home to let you get a real feel for the test and how your child is doing. Your child should have our text with them to help find the answers. Let me know how it goes. The tests should be returned tomorrow.

Have a good evening.

I enjoyed talking with all of you during conferences, and I'm looking forward to teaching again next week.  Mrs. Florko did a fine job and will continue teaching a subject or two until her last day before Thanksgiving.

Finally I'm picking the Seahawks to win one on the road against the Redskins.

Enjoy your weekend!  (Students, enjoy your 4 day weekend!)

Today was another crazy day here at school. This morning we had P.E. and Music and then came back for a little reading and writing. After lunch we read a little and practiced our song for the assembly friday, which is "God Bless the USA." Remember book orders are due Friday.

Have a great day!

Tuesday, November 04, 2003

Hello- Today was a busy and crazy day since our schedule is messed up all this week. We didn't have a lot of time to get things done. We started to do some math boxes and review this morning since we have a math test coming up on Thursday. After first recess we did a short skill lesson on context clues and then started writing our "Weather Poems." All we did today was brainstorm a topic and began pre-writing our rough drafts to get our ideas down on paper.

After lunch we handed out papers and took our spelling pre-test. T his week is a challange, because we are learning about Homophones. The homework is to correct the spelling page with an adult. There were book orders sent home today which will be due on Friday the 7th of November if you want to get some books.

Have a great afternoon and we will see you tomorrow.
