No school tomorrow, so no homework tonight.
I'll call in the book orders tomorrow and they should be here around the 21st. Have a good weekend.
Homework tonight is a grammar page practicing making the subject more interesting and clear. Homework should be spelling practice but I forgot that tomorrow's the last day of the week. Remember no school for students on Friday. So another mistake I made is book orders need to be due tomorrow instead of Friday. Sorry about that. Anyway, practice spelling words tonight!
Ask your child about our science lesson this morning. They should be able to tell you that when water turns to ice it expands. We ended the morning by learning the addition algorithm we learned in school - the traditional method of trading. Most students looked like they were getting the hang of it.
We took a reading comprehension test this afternoon and started our homework page as well. We also celebrated Perrin's birthday!
Have a good night!
Homework tonight is a math page of subtraction problems. Students should use our "Trade First" algorithm in solving each one. We've been working hard on practicing both the subtraction and addition algorithms. Tomorrow we'll learn and practice the traditional addition algorithm.
Tomorrow in science we'll observe what happens when water freezes. Today we got everything ready to make our observation.
This afternoon we practiced making the subject of our sentence more interesting and read "Allie's Basketball Dream" out of our reading books.
Don't forget Pizza Hut minutes tonight and book orders are due Friday.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Here's this week's words (long and short "i"):
bright
might
tight
sight
light
my
why
fly
dry
sky
visit
picnic
winter
mint
interest
Bonus Words:
appetite
attention
beginner
Don't forget to practice the addition facts for tomorrow and keep track of those Pizza Hut minutes. Also look for Book Orders that went home tonight. Orders will be due by Friday.
Homework tonight is spelling practice. Try to do some extra practice on those words that were missed on the pretest.
In math we practice the partial sums algorithm that they learned in the second grade. Next week we'll learn and practice the tradition addition algorithm. I do believe that the partial sums one is an important step in learning the traditional one. We also took a reading comprehension test.
This afternoon we went to library and then worked some more on the writing test.
I decided to wait until tomorrow to send home the new math challenge. Look for it then.
Homework tonight is a grammar page practicing exclamatory and command sentences.
We learned another diagram box in math today to help us solve comparison word problems. I think we're making some progress on those dreaded word problems.
This afternoon we went to our Music/PE time with Mrs. Hively. After recess I passed out the Pizza Hut minutes calendar and went over the program. I emphasized that we expect each child to participate and will make it part of their reading grade. Let me know if you have any questions and start recording those reading times. By the way, minutes you read to your child count as well. We ended the day starting our writing test on our favorite place. Ask your child what place he/she chose.
Look for another important note home tomorrow night concerning a math challenge.
Homework tonight is a math page of story problems using the "Start-Change-End" diagram boxes.
We enjoyed learning about the density of hot and cold water in science this morning. Ask your child how we discovered that hot water is less dense than cold water.
This afternoon we wrote some commands and exclamations and practiced using the appropriate ending mark. We ended the day by reading a play from our reading books.
Look for an October lunch calendar that went home and look for the Pizza Hut reading calendar tomorrow night.
Don't forget tomorrow's a late start!
